The days are balmy every autumn in Sonoma County and today, our first day of Fall, we’re anticipating an exceptionally beautiful weekend when Art Honors Life Gallery at FUNERIA joins 16 other studios in the 100 year-old building we share to welcome the public for a rare annual treat: Open Studios at Atelier One on the last weekend in September. Our theme this year is Hands On Art. We can’t wait to show you how it feels!
While our neighbors—painters, sculptors, printers and mixed-media artists among them will show and demonstrate how the tools they use—coupled with vivid imagination and a discerning eye—become engaging artworks, visitors to the gallery at FUNERIA will have a very different experience.
More than 100 unique artworks in our gallery offer the opportunity to feel the contours of stunning urns and heirloom-quality artifacts made by artists for the consoling and unique purpose of containing all or a portion of the sand- and shell-like particles that remain when cremation is chosen for lives we’ve loved, including our own. Come see bronze Scattering Spoons, carved and cast from gnarled branches and roots… taking the meaning of family roots to another beautiful dimension.
Media is varied and their character is unique—like each of us. The urns you’ll find here may be made from blown and cast glass with original designs finely etched in their surfaces, sgraffito-carved ceramic, wheel-thrown raku-fired or glazed urns with metal lids, forged steel, cast bronze, cut stainless steel, carved blocks of salt to contain ashes for sea burial and dispersal, or paper mâché— there is something to behold and to be held here in a broad range of sizes and prices that will become a treasured part of a family’s history.
Join us for Hands on Art: Open Studios at Art Honors Life Gallery at Atelier One, September 29-30, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, 2860 Bowen Street, Graton, in west Sonoma County, California, 95444. Just 75 minutes north of the Golden Gate Bridge. Come! Get your hands on art!
PS You will not want to miss our Sample Sale—only the second time we’ve offered them since opening the gallery in 2007!
